Route Planning Basic


Planning What's next after obtaining your Powered Pleasure Craft Driving License (PPCDL) Course? Almost all of those who had obtained their PPCDL would dream of jumping into a boat and zoom out into the sea immediately. Many would definitely like to go around Singapore waters with their families, friends or on their own. They may even want to venture outside Singapore! But to be on the safe side, why not do a 1-day ROUTE PLANNING BASIC COURSE - CRUISE CLASSIC Course to acquire more in-depth knowledge of routeing and planning, and the skill of coastal navigation.


Spend 2 meaningful evenings or 1 full day in the classroom to cover whatever is necessary to ensure safe navigation. After completing the theory classes, those who wish to advance their skill further, has the option to do a 1/2-day practical coastal navigation session on a boat. As an enhancement to training, a ship bridge simulator which is an extremely useful tool for practical training of mariners and boaters in different locations, scenarios and environment such as operating at night, in heavy weather, difficult traffic situations, can be added to the Course at an additional fee of $ 210/- for half a day.


Aim

This 1-day CC Course aims to help you identify your positions on the chart and at sea, identify navigational hazards, and to determine the best and the safest route to his destination, taking into account the local rules, procedures and practices. The course covers in detail the following topics: Simulator

  • Use of important information on a nautical chart
  • Lay off courses to steer
  • Position fixing
  • Determine travel time and ETA
  • Identifying navigation hazards
  • Application of transit bearings
  • Application of clearing bearings
  • Knowledge of weather and tidal information
  • Applicable rules and procedures in the port and
  • Managing emergencies

For Whom

The Course is intended for all PPCDL holders who wish to gain confidence in navigating a boat safely in the busy port waters and beyond. The class with be held with 10 participants per session.


Venue

The one-day theory will be conducted at a suitable classroom venue.
The optional half-day practical simulator training will be conducted at a suitable simulation centre.


Fee

1. S$150.00 (no additional GST) per participant for the 1-day theory session. Participants will be provided with course notes. Minimum class size - 8 participants.

2. S$150.00 (no additional GST) per participant for the 1/2 day practical boat cruising. Minimum class size - 6 participants.

3. As an enhancement a ship simulator course can be offered - which is an extremely useful tool for practical training of mariners and boaters, as different locations, scenarios and environment such as operating at night, in heavy weather, difficult traffic situations can easily be created and is available at an additional cost of $210.00 for the half day.
